ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategy Development and Implementation
In consultation with relevant Global Hub teams (GH), technical colleagues and regional colleagues, lead the development of bespoke engagement strategies for key UN and multilateral partners, developing Plan’s approach for local to global engagement, negotiating strategic global agreements where appropriate.
Provide on-going direction / oversight to ensure engagement plans are implemented effectively across the organisation
External Engagement
Work with colleagues to influence Plan International’s strategic positioning vis-à-vis the UN, define opportunities with the aim of expanding our strategic collaboration, policy influencing, funding and technical cooperation.
In close collaboration with the UN Liaison Offices and technical colleagues, develop and maintain relationships with senior leaders within key multilateral partners; serve as the internal point of contact for these partners; communicate programmatic needs, strategies and key developments and tackle constraints to productivity of these relationships.
Prepare Executive leadership to strategically engage with UN agencies and multilateral partners, helping to shape objectives in preparation for critical high-level external events and meetings.
Advise and support the PACE teams to leverage, and increase the impact of Plan’s engagement with multilaterals and other global partners during key policy windows and global events, networks and forums.
Proactively assess, clarify and validate partners’ needs on an on-going basis, working to influence the use of their resources to help achieve Plan International’s goals and objectives.
Internal Collaboration
Convene and lead cross-organisational project meetings and workshops to ensure the effective operationalisation of Plan’s multilateral partnering strategy.
Support the creation and stewarding of new frameworks, procedures, standards and/or systems that are needed to improve Plan International’s capacity to work with multilateral partners at scale.
Provide strategic advice and support to regions and countries to strengthen and maximize their partnerships with key UN agencies and multilaterals, maintaining line-of-sight on financial arrangements and any other partnership agreements, including MoUs, grants and contracts where relevant.
Promote peer-to-peer learning and capacity sharing within the organisation. This may include but is not limited to convening community of practice meetings with country, regional and national offices, managing virtual networks to collate and synthesize evidence and other capacity sharing strategies.
Technical Advice
Working with the Strategy team, Identify and anticipate current and future funding trends, opportunities and challenges emerging from UN agencies and International Financial Institutions through networks and engagement.
Have knowledge of what an anti-racist, equitable, and decolonial approach to partnerships may look like. Be confident to progress this agenda within the team, with partners, and beyond.
Ensure our partnership practices align fully with our feminist leadership approach, values aligned actions, and youth centred commitments.
Contribute to the team’s Anti-Racism Action Plan, and advance anti-racist conversations with partners.
Provide peer review to partnership colleagues and support the overall delivery of the GPT objectives and workplan.
Ensure that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential Knowledge
First-hand knowledge of the UN system, and preferably an understanding of the internal workings of IFIs or other multilateral organisations;
Knowledge of Advocacy, Policy and/or Fundraising within international development;
Significant awareness of global partner engagement strategies, quality assurance guidelines, monitoring & evaluation frameworks for external partnerships, and partnership capacity building;
Experience of developing new systems and structures with successful outcomes;
Demonstrable track record of success building global partnerships and alliances;
Extensive knowledge of current issues and trends in international development.
Skills
Strong strategic skills, including leading development of partnership strategies/frameworks;
Strength in forming relationships and motivating colleagues around implementing strategies;
Strong stakeholder management;
Strong communications, influencing and persuasion skills;
