Job description

Responsibilities:
1. Collect and analyze open-source data available in media, security sources, standard program reporting, and through program activities (activity notes, final evaluation reports, background sections of grant write-ups) to identify and map trends relevant to the program strategy and approach.
2. Communicate daily with the program’s staff, network of field monitors, and partners operating at the community, regional, and national levels to obtain primary data on security incidents, local context, and reactions by major stakeholders.
3. Provide regular (weekly or bi-weekly) briefings and updates to program field staff on key political, social, security and economic trends that are relevant to their areas of operation.

4. Maintain a database of security incidents and other significant developments related to local conflicts, border security, preventing violent extremism, and other socio-political issues of interest.

Produce periodic reports (weekly or bi-weekly), as well as ad hoc thematically focus reports on trends
and areas of strategic relevance detailing the social, political, and security situation in the program’s
area of intervention.
6. Coordinate with the CSSM Reporting Team to develop infographics and relevant visual materials that summarize and reflect key issues and problem sets relevant to the program.
7. Support the activity management teams to guide activity identification, design and implementation
processes in line with research findings and key trends.
8. Develop the capacity of field staff to conduct community-based context and conflict analysis.
9. Collaborate with the Monitoring Evaluation and Learning and Reporting teams to draft periodic, semiannual, and ad-hoc reports as they relate to analytical, research needs of the program.
10. Monitor the geographic footprint of the program’s activities to ensure that it stays relevant.
11. Participate in weekly implementation meetings to determine priority tasks and provide support as
necessary.

12. In coordination with the Heads of Sub-Offices, participate in meetings with Host Country Governments, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.
13. In collaboration with the Deputy Chief of Party, develop and supervise the implementation of innovative data collection techniques and tools, including working with external service providers to develop research and learning activities.
14. At the request of the SMT, participate in desk reviews or field research on areas of interest for the
program related to social, political and security issues and problem sets relevant to the program.
15. Contribute to program-level strategic discussions and evaluations.
16. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor and senior management team.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
• Master’s degree in Social Science, Economics, Journalism, Security Studies or a related field from an
accredited academic institution with two (2) years of relevant professional experience; or
• University degree in Social Science, Economics, Journalism, Security Studies or a related field from an accredited academic institution with four (4) year of relevant professional experience.
Experience
• Familiarity with USAID or US Government funded projects is desirable
• Experience with West African security forces is desirable
• Experience working in a conflict environment is a plus

Skills
• Superior written and oral communication skills in English and French.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
• Qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis skills and experience.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow up on tasks to completion
• Ability to work autonomously and take initiative to generate valuable findings and communicate them promptly.
• Ability to efficiently create and send reports during critical times or deadlines.
Languages
• For all applicants, fluency in English and French is required (oral and written)
