Responsibilities:
- Ensure all nets are offloaded a day before and placed in the allocated net area.
- Assign duties to the net deployment team, ensuring effective teamwork.
- Identify the appropriate materials for net changes and deployments (net size, pulling ropes, and twine).
- Make requisitions for new nets, net mending materials, and necessary tools.
- Oversee net changes, net deployments, bagnet removal, scrap removal, and frame changes.
- Ensure fish are not stressed during net changes, bagnet removal, and scrap removal.
- Oversee the loading and offloading of nets to and from the net deployment boat.
- Check the integrity of nets before deployment and net changes.
- Supervise on-water net handling activities (net changes, deployments, scrap removal, bagnet removal, and cage frame changes).
- Ensure that damaged and fouled nets are promptly removed from the cages.
- Work with divers to inspect deployed nets and check for damage.
- Ensure team safety and well-being while on the lake.
- Report all accidents and incidents to OHS and the line manager.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- Full Grade Twelve (12) Certificate with credits or better in Science, Mathematics, and English.
- Diploma in Fisheries Science, Fisheries & Aquaculture, Natural Resource Management, Metal
- Fabrication, or other relevant qualifications.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising a large team.
- Comfortable working on water (this role is predominantly based on Lake Kariba).
- Coxswain training is a plus.
- Experience in deploying nets
- Strong team leadership abilities are essential.
