Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct clinical management of study participants
- Specifically provide reproductive health inclusive of contraceptive services
- Provide HIV testing and counselling to study participants enrolled in clinical trials
- Provide HIV nursing care to study participants enrolled in HIV clinical trials
- Obtains consent from participants for various studies
- Obtains medical history and performs physical examination
- Offers individual, group and family counseling to participants and patients
- Confirms eligibility for all study participants
- Completes and handles all CRF queries
- Completes interviewer administered questionnaires
- Conducts protocol specific tests and procedures
- Phlebotomy, specimen processing
- Does HIV counseling, testing and lab results interpretation
- Responds to participant’s calls.
- Community sensitization in order for recruitment purposes of study participants
- Retention activities-follow up of participants in need of close monitoring and review together with visit reminders via phone calls
- Development and training of SOPs
- Record any adverse events, pregnancy and notify the lead clinician of the same as per protocol
- Conduct procedures required as per research protocol in compliance with good clinical practice
- Performs other duties assigned by supervisor
Vacancy Requirements:
- At least Diploma in Nursing (KRN/KRCHN)
- Training in HIV/AIDS counseling and testing
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing or related field
- Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya
- Team player
- Excellent Communication and people skills
- Highly organized
- Ability to work without supervision
- At least two (2) years’ experience as a nurse in a busy health facility
- At least one (1) year experience working in a busy HIV care clinic
- Experience providing reproductive health services
- Prior GCP and Human subjects training is desirable
- Experience working in clinical research setting is an added advantage
