The Nutrition assistant will work with and under the supervision of the nutritionists to support patient health and well-being through proper nutrition. The nutrition assistant will work directly with patients to observe patients for signs of malnutrition and offer necessary support and treatment where necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities
Major roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
a) To monitor that nutrition screening at the vital signs station is done correctly. Monitor that all anthropometric instruments are functioning correctly and are available.
b) To ensure all patients referred to the Nutrition office are assigned into the correct nutrition care plan. With appropriate follow updates, and therapeutic foods rationed according to the Malawi NCST guidelines with relevant counselling through use of related job aids and demonstrations.
c) To strengthen documentation on patient care and follow-up in registers, client management form, with correct transitioning of patients when necessary.
d) Monitor Lighthouse facility therapeutic food stock, update stock card and conduct regular physical count.
e) Participate in the evaluation of nutrition services/activities.
f) Write monthly reports for nutrition activities and service provision at Lighthouse facilities through the Nutritionist.
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies
a) A Diploma in a nutrition related field
b) Working experience in the NCST and CMAM programs
c) Good counselling and nutrition education skills
d) Good Interpersonal skills
e) Self-starter and innovative
f) Good at oral and written English
g) Fluency in English and Chichewa will be strongly advantageous
