Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate safety and health commission activities in Zimbabwe.
- Carry out periodic OH&S walk downs for recommending measures to help protect workers from potentially dangerous practices, processes, and materials at the Harare station and Experimental stations.
- Verify that the OH&S regulatory requirements are properly applied.
- Verify that OH&S and CIMMYT’s OHS HQ policy, procedures and standards are properly applied.
- Report working conditions that affect the health of staff in Zimbabwe.
- Monitor and report all new published OH&S applicable legislation in Zimbabwe.
- Maintain and Update the OH&S Zimbabwe’s document data base and maintain all necessary records as required by law.
- Create and maintain OH&S records related to the policy on document retention and destruction database.
- Support of the internal Civil protection Plan and Evacuation Drills at the Stations according to local laws.
- Support specifics routines OH&S activities (fire extinguishers inspections, hydrants, fire equipment cabinets, eye washers, etc.) and training of staff.
- Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Requirements
BSc degree in Occupational Health and Safety or relevant field.
At least two years’ work experience in Occupational Health and Safety environment.
Conversant with the Zimbabwean Occupational Health and Safety laws.
Experience with setting up an Occupational Health and Safety system from scratch.
An ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure with minimal supervision.
Good interpersonal skills, integrity, honesty, and self-motivation.
