Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed patient history, visual acuity tests, and comprehensive eye examinations to detect refractive errors, eye diseases, and visual impairments.
• Measure refractive errors to prescribe correct lenses for glasses or contact lenses.
• Support other eye specialties in managing conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eye syndrome.
• Advise patients on suitable corrective lenses and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses.
• Educate patients on eye health, proper eye care practices, and address their questions.
• Promote optical products and services, including frames, lenses, and eye care packages.

Position Requirements (Job and Person Specifications)

• Minimum qualification: Recognized Diploma in Optometry from an accredited institution.
• Must be registered with the relevant medical board in Uganda to practice optometry.
• At least 2 years of professional experience in optometry from a recognized institution.
• Knowledge of frame style trends is an added advantage.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and software.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with patients and staff.
• Detail-oriented and able to work under minimal supervision.
