Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) is a body corporate established by the URC Act. The mandate of the Corporation is to construct, operate and maintain Railway, Marine and Road services both inside and outside Uganda for the carriage of
passengers and goods. URC invites suitable and qualified Ugandans to apply to fill the following position.
Principal Safety, Health and Environment Officer (PSHE) (1 POSITION)
JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Managing Director, this position ensures that all aspects of URC’s
processes, activities, outputs adhere to requirements SAFETY, HEALTH AND
ENVIRONMENT MANUAL, and all the relevant laws and regulations on work place
safety, and environmental compliance in Uganda. Position also ensures adherence to
all aspects of safety and security are adhered to as per relevant security protocols
and provisions.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Communicate to staff the provision of Safety, Health and Environment Manual
• Provide professional guidance and proactive follow up on all Safety, Health, and Environment Manual.
• Promote Safety, Health and Environment requirements in all URC work streams
and processes
• Ensure that all URC assets, sites, estates and facilities are provided with, meet
and continue to observe all the requisite Safety, Health and Environment
requirements in line with the existing laws, regulations in Uganda
EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES
• At least Six (06) years of relevant professional experience, in Safety, Health and Environment in public or private sector and three (03) of which should have been in Senior Officer level in Transport sector from reputable organization.
• Must demonstrate a track record of experience in a complex, challenging environment handling SHE requirements
COMPETENCIES
• Demonstrate a strategic mind set, able to identify and implement URC’s SHE long term plans,
• Demonstrate understanding of relevant SHE laws, regulations and practice in Uganda:
• Experience in relationship building and stakeholder engagement with Government offices at a middle to high level.
• Experience in developing and implementing environment, security and safety plans.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
