Vacancy – Procurement Officer

Saint John of God Hospitaller Services is a non-profit healthcare organization established in 1994 to contribute to the development of health for all Malawians targeting the most vulnerable, marginalized, and excluded groups. With its operations in both Lilongwe and Mzuzu, St John of God Malawi is a key provider of tertiary and community-based mental health promotion and care; early intervention services for children with both intellectual and physical disability; vocational training for orphans & vulnerable youth including those with a disability; health care and other services for older persons; psychosocial counselling, stress and addiction management services; rehabilitation of street
children; self-help group approach for women empowerment and tertiary level training in Psychiatric Nursing, Clinical Medicine-Mental Health, Psychosocial Counselling and General Nursing. Saint John of God Hospitaller Services seeks to recruit a Procurement Officer to fill a vacant post at its offices in Mzuzu.

The Position

Reporting to the Senior Finance Officer, the Procurement Officer will be responsible for management of the procurement function in accordance with approved policies and procedures.

Responsibilities (which include, but are not limited to)

  • Process approved purchase requisitions in accordance with the Service’s purchase policy and procedures.
  • Develop and constantly update the procurement database and procurement or contract register.
  • Prepare and maintain procurement plans and implementation schedules to meet Service needs
  • Prepare tender documents- including advertisements, purchasing orders, or supplier contracts.
  • Coordinate and witness the opening of tenders and proposals and record minutes thereof.
  • Assist in the evaluation of tenders and identification of suppliers that best meet the requirements of the Service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Purchasing and Supply or Logistics and Supply Chain Management
  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualification work experience
  • Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply
  • Computer literacy and competence in the use of Iplicit, MS Excel, and Access;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to work with persons having mental health problems
  • Strict Adherence to SJOG Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy
  • A clean motor vehicle driver’s license.
  • Registered with the Malawi Institute of Procurement and Supply
