Context & Environment
-
The Tilenga project is situated in an environmentally sensitive region within the Lake Albert Basin, which poses significant environmental challenges for the operations. A substantial part of the asset is located within MFNP which is Uganda’s largest national park and is classified as a Class II protected area by the IUCN. A number of well pads shall be located within MFNP. Within another perimeter of the asset (Contract Area 1) lies the Victoria Nile whose borders are classified by the RAMSAR convention and is a largely densely populated area with dispersed dwelling, farmers, stock breeders, and fishermen.
Another anticipated challenge that the project will face concerns flow assurance management during production. The reservoirs in the North Nile network, located inside MFNP have heavy and very viscous oil which will make it harder to separate the oil from the water. Whereas the reservoirs in the South Nile network have very waxy oil with a high content of wax crystals present in the oil naturally and a high risk of gelling. The anticipated flow assurance challenges associated with the Tilenga project are multifaceted and require careful consideration.
The project is currently planned for First Oil in August 2026.
Activities
-
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
HSSE
- Adopt and demonstrate exemplary behavior regarding HSE rules & requirements, as well Company Ethics & “Code of Conduct” policy.
- Take Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) lead in ensuring “safe systems of work” and “safe conditions” are in place within area of responsibility.
- Demonstrate visible commitment to HSE by periodically leading/taking part in risk assessments, audits, HSE meetings, emergency drills, etc.
- Participate and assist in the development and implementation of Environmental management and Energy Efficiency System processes and ensure that technical means are put in place to respect commitments in term of discharges to the environment and flaring.
Technical
- Participate in daily site meetings and provide direct support to site.
- Provide daily monitoring/process diagnosis and troubleshooting/optimization of well pads and CPF process.
- Provide Shortfall and Shutdown reporting analysis.
- Provide Flaring reporting, as well as energy efficiency/ GHG monitoring analysis and optimization.
- Provide Critical equipment monitoring (except rotating equipment)
- Monitor chemical injection at well pads and CPF and provide troubleshooting/optimization when required.
- Identify and resolve Process/FA technical issues that do not require long-term study by Tier 2.
- Handover technical issues that require a longer-term resolution to Tier 2.
- Assist the site team in investigating the root cause of any process upsets or shutdowns. This requires expertise in PI-AF as well as any system available for event logging.
- Periodical review of “operation within the design envelope” to identify potential optimizations regarding productivity and environmental performance.
- Review and assess inhibits and long term isolations for day-to-day operation.
- Prepare, review, and assess special operations with respect to process safety, uptime, flow assurance and production optimization.
- Provide Process engineering input to any risk assessments required at site, including DGS (downgraded situations)
- Identify and scope opportunities for process and production improvements before handover to Tier 2 via an RFM (request for modification).
Digital
- The following tools will be used in the Smart Room:
- PI-AF
- Quantum (3D asset management portal)
- WIMS (Well Integrity Management System)
- DOF (Digital Oil Field)
MyCFR (Carbon Footprint Reduction
