Job description

 The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of the YEFFA project. This role involves ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining financial records, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with donor and organizational financial policies. The Project Accountant will work closely with the Finance Manager, the Project Coordinator, and other team members to ensure the financial integrity and efficiency of project operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the project’s financial resources in compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets, ensuring expenditures are within approved limits and aligned with project goals.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for all project transactions.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for the project, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Reconcile bank statements and manage cash flow to ensure sufficient funds for project activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and audit schedules as required.
  • Prepare financial reports for donors, ensuring they meet donor specifications and deadlines.
  • Liaise with donors regarding financial matters and respond to any queries or requests for information.
  • Oversee the financial aspects of procurement processes, ensuring compliance with procurement policies.
  • Manage contracts and agreements with vendors, ensuring timely payments and adherence to terms.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor is degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project accounting or financial management, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting.
  • Experience with donor-funded projects and familiarity with donor financial reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Familiar in using financial management tool such as QuickBooks, TALLY, among others.
  • Knowledge in procurement and tax rules
  • Knowledge in Financial Management policies and Accounting procedures, budget management and financial analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili
