Job description

Who we are

We are the BBC’s international charity. We believe in the power of media and communication for good. With our extensive network of partners in the 16 countries we work, BBC Media Action reaches more than 100 million people a year – helping to save lives, protect livelihoods, support media and counter misinformation, challenge prejudice and build democracy.

Why work with us

At BBC Media Action, you don’t work for us, you work with us. We are a creative and dynamic team with an exciting work environment and culture that support and enable people to thrive. When you work with us, you’re contributing to helping tackle some of the biggest challenges facing people and communities.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for very a strong team player with excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to help deliver some of our current and future donor-funded development projects. As part of their responsibilities and duties, the Project Manager will oversee the development and execution of all project deliverables, lead project design, planning and budgeting, develop workplans, and participate in procurement and other operational and administrative processes. They will help link our work with partners in the development sector and across Sierra Leone’s media ecosystem. The Project Manager’s role also involves supporting management in the day-to-day running of the country office as necessary. The nature of the work we do requires a lot of flexibility, passion, and willingness to learn new skills.

BBC Media Action works to ensure that everyone we work with remains safe during their time with us, and we operate a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people. As this role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children, youth, and adults, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.

Specific job requirements and competencies:

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Experience managing a multi-disciplinary team to deliver development projects, including project design, developing workplans, deploying resources and adhering to log-frame commitments;
  • Strong skills in managing budgets and good knowledge of budget and project management tools and software;
  • Experience writing activity and project reports, and the strong written communication skills to do so effectively;
  • Ability to build strong working relations quickly and gain the trust of local partners and counterparts;
  • Strong analytical skills, good judgement and decision-making abilities, as well as innovative project delivery and problem-solving skills

Working with us requires a strong commitment to diversity, equality, and safeguarding.
