Specific Objectives:

  • To ensure sustainable mangrove ecosystem management that encourages community-based participation
  • To ensure restoration, conservation and management of mangroves, developing effective measures for protection and/or rehabilitation of mangrove ecosystems; mitigating climate change effects in the process
  • To ensure management and protection of mangrove areas for fisheries, erosion control coastal stabilization and biodiversity conservation; intensifying the protective function of the mangrove forest along riverbanks, and estuaries
  • To increase public awareness and education on the benefit of the mangrove forests; consolidate existing mangrove information and make it available in forms which are meaningful and accessible
  • to strengthen the capacities of the institutions/stakeholders responsible for mangrove management
  • To promote research and education on the conservation and management of mangrove and associated ecosystems
  • To facilitate partnerships and networking among mangrove-dependent communities, private enterprises/companies operating in mangrove communities and the government to promote and ensure best practices.
  • Meetings with communities and other relevant stakeholders on mangrove ecosystem conservation needs
  • Promoting adoption of fuel efficient smoke ovens as this would help reduce deforestation for fuel wood
  • Restoration of 50 hectares of degraded mangrove portions in two communities
  • Popularization and enforcement of local community bye-laws in communities
  • Develop mangrove management plan
  • Establish and support mangrove restoration and monitoring committees in communities
  • Conduct quarterly monitoring of mangroves planted to track their survival rate
  • Develop tree tracking App monitor the growth and survival of mangrove trees
  • Conduct a workshop to document and share lessons learnt on participatory community mangrove restoration
  • Providing support such as training and refresher training of locally existing structures such as the eco-guards and community advocacy champions for effect monitoring of the ecosystem
  • Establish/Women-Led strengthen participatory Mangrove Forest Management Group – 6 Groups
  • Conduct a participatory study to determine the present status of mangrove ecosystem and resources in the areas and engaging relevant stakeholders
  • Conduct 12 quarterly meeting(s) of the SMUG
  • Establish a “State management Ecosystem Users Forum” comprising the government, NGO mangrove communities, companies and private business operators, (Mangrove wood harvest, land users/farmers, fisher dryers, Miners, Oil extractors etc.)

Qualifications and Experience 

The Project Manager is required to possess the following qualities and to maintain compliance with CSSL Rules and policies at all times:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Economics, Rural Development, Natural Resource, Project Management or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in project management
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with community stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in team and under pressure in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Fluency in English with knowledge of local languages in the targeted area is an advantage.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize;
  • Proven experience managing community dialogues and working directly with beneficiaries;

  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to determine priorities and attention to detail a must;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, sound judgment, planning, team building and group facilitation skills;
  • Willingness and capacity to work in the field and travel frequently to project sites when needed;
  • Familiarity with the importance of gender equality and social inclusion and demonstrated ability in integration of gender equality and social inclusion in biodiversity conservation efforts;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and adherence to cultural sensitivity and diplomacy;
  • Able to work under pressure with minimum supervision to deliver deliverable in a timely manner;
  • Excellent conceptual, oral and written communication skills; and
  • Proficiency in English.

Functional Competencies

  • Strong Programme formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation skills
  • Tracked Working experience in conflict situations and strong gender integration skills
  • Strong knowledge of Results Based Management
  • Ability to synthesize program performance data and produce analytical reports in order to inform management and strategic decision-making
  • Strong Knowledge of Biodiversity and livelihoods
  • Strong writing and organizational skills and ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Good conflict resolution skills
