- Job Title: Project Manager
Number of vacancies: One (1)
Duty Station: Project offices in Karenga District with regular travels to Kampala and project landscape.
Duration: Five (5) years ‐ Full‐time with a probationary period of six (6) months
Purpose of the job
This position will provide overall technical expertise and oversee practical implementation and execution of all the project components and support all the project personnel udder his/her supervision to deliver on their roles. The Project Manager will be based in the targeted landscape and will report to the Project Coordinator. The position will also provide technical and operational leadership for the Project Management Unit (PMU). He/she will work with the UWA, MTWA, the District Local Governments in the landscape, and all project stakeholders including the project Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to ensure strengthened, coordinated and effective implementation of the project.
Responsibilities and tasks

- Providing technical leadership on implementation and delivery of project activities
- Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with project participants, partner agencies, local communities and government agencies through timely sharing of accurate t information on project implementation progress.
iii. Overseeing project activities on wildlife management and conservation in accordance with MTWA, UWA and UNEP policies and procedures, the project document, approved work plans and budgets including participating in the development of work plans and budgets for approval by the project steering committee.
- Developing and Monitoring the project performance plan according to the proposed project indicators (logical framework) and a project Gantt Chart.
- Preparing annual work plans and progress reports quarterly and annually for review by MTWA, UWA and UNEP and approval by the TAC and PSC.
- Drafting memorandums of understanding (MOUs) and terms of reference (TOR) for all partners and consultants, for review by the TAC, MTWA and UWA.
vii. Establishing proper financial management systems to ensure that project funds are disbursed properly and expenditures are in accordance with the project document and Public Finance Management Act, 2015
viii. Preparing and submitting quarterly progress and financial reports as required, following all UNEP quality management system, MTWA and UWA administrative processes.
- Overseeing the implementation of the stakeholder engagement plan, project sustainability plan and exit strategy to measure progress annually and report findings
Qualifications and experience
Education
- An Honors Bachelor’s Degree in either Natural Resource Management, Zoology, Wildlife Management, Conservation Biology, or Environmental Science/Management from a recognized University/Institution.
- A Master’s Degree in any of the above fields or relevant qualification from a recognized Institution
iii. A Postgraduate qualification in Project Planning and Management from a recognized

Experience
- At least ten (10) years’ experience in practical wildlife or environment and natural resource conservation and wildlife management, 5 of which should be in ecological restoration project management from a reputable organisation.
- Experience in the management of UN agencies’ environment projects would be
beneficial.
iii. Working experience with Uganda government agencies and managing large internationally funded projects and programmes will be an added advantage.
- Understanding of GEF finance and administrative procedures will be an added advantage.
Knowledge
