Job description

The primary objective of this role is twofold:

  1. To develop and write high-quality proposals that secure funding from international donors, foundations, and other potential sources.
  2. To support the further development of our programmes in South Sudan, ensuring they are aligned with both donor priorities and the needs of the communities we serve.

Scope of Work

The selected Proposal Writer and Program Development Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Donor Research: Identify and research potential donors priorities that align with NP’s mission and the specific needs of our South Sudan program.
  • Proposal Development: Create compelling proposals that effectively communicate the impact of our UCP work and align with donor requirements.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with the South Sudan team, including program managers and field staff, to gather necessary information and develop proposals and programs that reflect on-the-ground realities.
  • Editing and Review: Edit and review proposals to ensure they are clear, coherent, and persuasive.
  • Budget Development: Work with the finance team to create accurate and compelling budgets that support the proposed activities.
  • Compliance: Ensure all proposals and program plans adhere to donor guidelines and are submitted on time.
  • Reporting: Write/edit narrative donor reports, liaising with the finance department regarding financial reporting to ensure that financial reports are submitted on time, in adherence with financial reporting requirements, and that they correspond to the narrative reports

Deliverables

  • A minimum of 2 well-crafted proposals submitted within the three-month period.
  • Enhanced program plans that are ready for donor presentation and implementation.
  • A comprehensive report detailing potential donors and funding opportunities for NP’s South Sudan program.
  • Monthly progress reports detailing the development of proposals, donor engagement, and program advancements.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Proven experience in writing successful proposals and developing programs, particularly for NGOs working in conflict or post-conflict regions.
  • Strong understanding of Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP) and the challenges faced in South Sudan.
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and persuasive manner.
  • Experience working in conflict zones, preferably in South Sudan or similar contexts.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Familiarity with donor requirements, particularly those of large international funders.
  • Competence in budgeting and financial planning for programs and proposals.

Timeline

This is a three-month contract based in Juba, South Sudan, starting from mid September 2024 and ending in December 2024. Start date may be adjusted for the right candidate.

Compensation

Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. Payments will be structured based on deliverables, with a portion paid upon submission of proposals and the remainder upon securing funding.
