ROLE OF DEPARTMENT
1. Provide a high quality, efficient and effective Radiology services
2. Diagnostic imaging equipment is used to carry out radiological examinations on Patients and reports
provided to referring clinicians. The report assists the referrer in providing a diagnosis of the patient’s
condition in order to decide on an effective course of treatment and care.
3. Interventional Radiology is carried out to assist in the treatment of a patient’s condition.
4. The departmental clinical governance strategy ensures a high standard of care for patients undergoing
radiological examination and promotes multidisciplinary team working.
As a skilled radiographer you play an important role on the medical team and assist the physicians in examining for
broken bones, ulcers, tumors, diseases or malfunction of organs by justifying and performing Radiographic
examinations, providing direct care and a high quality diagnostic imaging service in order to assist in the
management of patients referred from clinicians.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
A degree or diploma in diagnostic radiography or an equivalent
Registration certificate, including an Allied Health registration
Evidence of clinical training and personal motivation is essential
Ability to take responsibility and make proper decisions to make involving patient and co-worker safety

Excellent communication in order to maintain the confidence and care of the patient. Patients under the care of
a radiographer present themselves in all ages, cultures and of various ethnic origins and the ability to
communicate orally with them is crucial
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing doctors and other personnel
Ability to follow written and verbal directions
Ability to lift and transfer patients to and from the imaging table
Ability to move, adjust, manipulate equipment to perform imaging procedures
Ability to review and evaluate recorded images, to determine quality of image
Ability to pay attention to patients’ needs and be courteous and compassionate in the execution of your duties.

JOB DIMENSIONS
Clinical areas:
General Radiography including A+E, GP, Out Patients, In Patients, Fluoroscopy, Theatre, Ward and CT.
Clinical provision:
24 hours, 365 days per annum determined by pre-scheduled shift rota. There may be a requirement to work both on
call and stand by to cover nights and weekends to cover trauma patients, urgent ward patients and CT Scans.
Staff Responsibility:
Assist in team accountability.
Assist in the training and induction of a new member of staff
