The Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) is a bi-national railway company owned jointly by the Governments of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Zambia. The railway stretches from the port of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to New Kapiri-Mposhi in Zambia, covering a distance of 1,860km. TAZARA handles both freight and passenger traffic for Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Democratic Republic of Congo, the Great Lakes Region and other Southern African countries. TAZARA’s Corporate Head Office is in Dar es Salaam, with two Regional Offices in Dar es Salaam and Mpika, respectively.

The Authority seeks the services of a committed, vibrant, innovative, strategically-focused and business-oriented national in the following position.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful candidates will manage, plan and control regional train operations.

Duties:

The main duties for the Regional General Manager include:

Developing and implementing marketing plans;
Planning and determining resources needed;
Recommending any change to tariff rates and fares;
Co-ordinating the activities in the region;
Effective implementation and monitoring of manpower development plans and maintenance of industrial harmony;
Initiating and approving departmental budget proposals as well monitoring and controlling budget expenditure;
Submitting regular, comprehensive operational and financial reports on the regional activities to Head Office.
Qualifications:

A degree from a recognized University or its equivalent, preferably in Business Administration or Engineering;
The candidate should have vast experience in interpersonal skills, leadership and tact to deal with A diverse workforce and clients;
At least five (5) years of experience at Senior Management level;
Excellent communications skills;
Post graduate degree and experience in railway transportation or related industries will be an added advantage; and
This position is contractual and open to Tanzanian nationals only.
