REGIONAL PHARMACIST – MASAKA REGIONAL REFERRAL HOSPITAL
The Regional Pharmacist provides high-quality pharmaceutical support across sites through one-on-one and group engagement, ensuring accurate, timely dispensing services, advising patients, and supporting prescribing targets. Working under the guidance of the Program Pharmacist and the supervision of the Regional Medical Director, the role involves maintaining accurate patient data, upholding confidentiality, and ensuring patient satisfaction. The pharmacist supports HIV care by promoting treatment uptake and adherence, collaborates closely with clinic and partner site teams, and submits periodic reports to both the Regional Medical Director and the Pharmacy Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
– Provide clinical pharmacy support by advising patients and healthcare providers on drug interactions, side effects, dosages, and proper medication use.
– Monitor prescribing trends to promote patient safety, improve compliance, and prevent harmful interactions or excessive drug use.
– Manage pharmacy operations, including supervising staff, maintaining inventories, and ensuring proper storage and handling of pharmaceutical supplies.
– Maintain accurate pharmacy records, including patient profiles, controlled drug registries, inventories, and other required documentation.
– Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan, evaluate, and improve the quality and effectiveness of drug regimens.
– Provide specialized patient services, particularly for conditions such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic illnesses.
– Train and mentor pharmacy students and support staff, ensuring adherence to professional standards and regulatory requirements.
– Ensure compliance with legal, safety, and confidentiality standards in medication handling, patient interactions, and overall pharmacy practice.
Qualifications and Experience:
– Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or its equivalent from a recognizable institution. Professional qualification in procurement and supply chain management is desirable.
– He/ she should be a registered pharmacist and an active member of the pharmaceutical society of Uganda.
– He/she should have at least seven (5) years of progressively responsible experience in HIV/AIDs supply chain
/logistics management.
– The ideal candidate for this position should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse staff, clients, and consultants.
