Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Provide high-quality nursing care to employees, including assessing, diagnosing, and treating health conditions.
- Conduct routine health assessments, including physical examinations, medical history evaluations, and vital signs monitoring.
- Administer medications, injections, and treatments as prescribed, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Provide first aid and emergency care to injured or ill employees, stabilizing conditions and determining the need for further medical intervention.
Health Promotion & Education:
- Develop and implement health promotion programs and initiatives aimed at improving employee health and well-being.
- Educate employees on health-related topics, including disease prevention, nutrition, stress management, and occupational health risks.
- Conduct workshops and training sessions to raise awareness of health issues relevant to the mining environment.
Occupational Health Services:
- Monitor and manage occupational health risks, conducting regular health screenings and assessments for employees.
- Maintain accurate health records, including medical histories, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
- Collaborate with management to develop and implement occupational health policies and programs that comply with legal and industry standards.
- Conduct risk assessments and health surveillance programs to identify potential workplace hazards.
Emergency Response:
- Act as a first responder for medical emergencies on-site, coordinating with local healthcare providers for transportation and treatment of serious cases.
- Maintain emergency medical supplies and ensure all first aid kits and medical equipment are well-stocked and accessible.
- Participate in emergency drills and contribute to the development of emergency response plans specific to health and safety.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, occupational health specialists, and safety officers, to provide comprehensive care.
- Communicate effectively with employees regarding their health concerns, treatment plans, and wellness initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in handling employee health information.
Record Keeping & Reporting:
- Ensure accurate documentation of all patient interactions, treatments provided, and health assessments conducted.
- Prepare regular reports on health services, employee health trends, and occupational health issues for management review.
- Assist in data collection and analysis for health-related research and evaluation of workplace health programs.
Qualifications and experience
- Grade 12 school certificate
- Diploma in Nursing or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Valid nursing license to practice in Zambia.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a registered nurse, preferably in occupational health, primary care, or emergency services.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations applicable to the mining industry is an advantage.
