The selected Research Officer will serve a critical research function for NP South Sudan and its ongoing projects engaging in all aspects of the research process and serving as an internal focal point. Furthermore, the Research Officer will support the RME department with its wider monitoring and evaluation tasks as needed. The role will involve regular visits and extended periods of time in the field with basic conditions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and coordinate as a focal point for research projects and processes from start to finish, with oversight from the RME Advisor.
Directly contribute to research and evaluation initiatives at all stages including at the early design, data collection and analysis stages
Conduct surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, and other data collection activities in the field.
Obtain informed consent and safeguarding the confidentiality and rights of research participants.
Ensure that research activities adhere to ethical standards, particularly in sensitive humanitarian contexts.
Design, monitor and supervise project performance monitoring plans including tracking and measuring project indicators in collaboration with relevant staff
Documenting best practices, lessons learned, and case studies to support organizational learning.
Manage ethical data collection, storage and management.
Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities
Deliver capacity building to staff and community members in the field on relevant topics such as participatory research methods and research ethics
Provide technical support and mentorship to field teams and community researchers on research, monitoring and evaluation matters
Conduct regular field visits to monitor project implementation and assist teams with research, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and information management in-person.
Support with administration, finance and logistical arrangements and processes associated with research, monitoring and evaluation activities.
Monitor external consultants and contract deliverables such as close monitoring of contract deliverables, time frames and quality control, providing support as appropriate
Provide reliable and effective administration, reporting and information management support to the RME department and others as needed.
Manage information requests from external partners including Protection cluster and sub-clusters.
Undertake other tasks reasonably expected of her/him by the RME Advisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science subjects including Sociology, Political Geography, Peace and Conflict Studies or other related disciplines.
- Minimum 3 years of professional work experience in research, particularly leading field research and teams in the field
- Experience conducting both qualitative and quantitative research methods, with experience of implementing participatory action research merited
- Experience in data transcription, data entry, spreadsheets, database management and data analysis using software, with experience in R, SPSS, Taguette, NVIVO or similar merited
- Experience writing research analysis, with publications merited
- Experience in setting up and managing administration and project management systems
- Experience living and working in high-pressure, challenging environments including field locations.
- Skill in working under pressure of deadlines, competing priorities and responsibilities
- establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is essential, skills in other languages are merited
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, communicating and building positive relationships
- Understanding and commitment to Nonviolent Peaceforce mission and objectives essential.
