The Campaigner will lead the identification, strategic planning and execution of responsive campaigns within GPAF, employing an integrated approach to drive fundraising and engage audiences in building counter-power. This role will design data-driven, evidence-based campaigns in collaboration with various teams to ensure effective delivery of responsive work. The Campaigner will foster internal alignment on responsive initiatives, creating a system to prioritize emerging issues for GPAF’s responsiveness. The role will entail working closely with program, volunteer, engagement, fundraising and communication staff.
Main duties
Strategic planning
- Coordinate and supervise all arrangements for responsive campaign activities as required.
- Represent Greenpeace Africa at meetings, coordination bodies, media, stakeholders, and local communities when required.
- Collaborate with the Communications team to engage target audiences and ensure media interventions align with campaign objectives.
- Prepare or assign the preparation of detailed briefings and updates to inform staff, media, and stakeholders about campaign issues, progress, and outcomes.
- Work with the Fundraising team to develop ways to maximize the campaign’s fundraising potential.
- Oversee project monitoring and evaluation, providing reports to the Head of Project Development, Senior Portfolio Managers, and campaigners from other offices as needed.
- Work with the Research team to gather data and insights for shaping responses.
- Ensure adherence to Greenpeace Africa security guidelines and report any security incidents in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Networking and Responsiveness
- Adopt a Pan-African perspective in project delivery by leveraging responsive opportunities to advance campaign and project objectives across the continent.
- Enhance responsiveness and agility within the project team to advance campaign goals.
- Utilize responsive opportunities aligned with campaign goals to drive impact.
- Foster relationships with external stakeholders, including civil society, communities, and authorities, to advance the campaign.
- Establish and maintain active networks with our global network, Greenpeace International (GPI) to enhance the campaign’s impact.
- Ensure the development of active networks and strong alliances with key strategic stakeholders externally.
- Ensure specific relevant campaign projects are appropriately budgeted for.
- Oversee the campaign budget and ensure its effective and timely utilization.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Policy, Development, Biodiversity, or related field
- 5 years experience in any of these areas: advocacy, awareness-raising, public education, campaign management and coordination.
- Experience working in a multicultural team.
- A strong Pan-African Mindset.
- Familiarity with the development of project proposals and the project management cycle.
- Skilled in negotiating, building consensus, bringing together diverse stakeholders, and facilitating dialogue to achieve mutual outcomes.
- Knowledge and/or experience in campaigning, creative advocacy content, execution of strategies, lobbying, and canvassing projects.
