Change a Life Bwindi is a Ugandan CBO working to ensure the delicate balance between the environment, wildlife conservation and sustainable development programs among the communities living in Bwindi, Rubanda District. CALB aims to uplift the wellbeing of the communities in Bwindi through creation of sustainable livelihoods opportunities. THE JOB Change-a-Life Bwindi are looking to appoint a restoration project coordinator at their newly constructed research facility in Ishaya. This research facility will act as a hub of restoration research undertaken on land adjacent to it, with the over-arching aim of reinstating indigenous forest habitat on these ex-agricultural sites.

The emphasis for all restoration undertaken will be to harmonize the needs of both the wildlife and the community, with all restoration work undertaken underpinned by a detailed scientific monitoring program. The Restoration project coordinator will work closely with the Change-a-Life Bwindi Board, the Conservation Director (Professor Stewart Thompson), regulatory agencies (e.g. Uganda Wildlife Authority), local land owners/managers, academic institutions (e,g. Kabala University, Max Planck Institute), relevant NGO’s (e.g. The Jane Goodall Institute, Gorilla Doctors) and other partners/stakeholders to coordinate scientifically focused restoration projects.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Expertise in field techniques in relation to ecological sampling for wildlife conservation;
• The scientific vision, experience, enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to shape the direction and emphasis of the Change-a-Life Bwindi conservation restoration initiative;
• A passion for working in partnership with conservation practitioners and local communities;
• Scientific project management, including organizational skills, multi-tasking, and the ability to priorities competing projects;
• Ability to set ambitious restoration goals, articulate these goals internally, and report on programmed performance;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

DESIRABLE
• A Bachelors/PhD in a relevant discipline;
• A track record of publications in international peer-reviewed journals;
