In this role, your main missions will be as follows:
Prospecting in the rural development, environment and biodiversity sectors, with particular attention to the development of the portfolio in the agriculture and food security sector (with various financing tools) Support for project instruction within the project team (drafting instruction documents, contracting, setting up appropriate procurement procedures, etc.)
Support for monitoring and managing the project portfolio:
Dialogue with beneficiaries and partners involved in the projects (public companies, banks, ministries, NGOs, international organizations, etc.)
Support for AFD project teams at all stages of the project cycle (preparation of files for headquarters, formulation of preliminary opinions, communication to local partners of the positions taken by AFD, procurement, preparation of disbursements, project evaluation, etc.)
Drafting and updating project monitoring documents: presentation sheets, interview reports, sector notes Monitoring progress projects (programming, annual reports, participation in steering committees, etc.)
Monitoring/management of consultant contracts, and preparation/monitoring of related payments
Monitoring compliance with AFD procedures, disbursements, procurement procedures, recovery, etc.
Organization and participation in project identification and monitoring missions
Monitoring of partnerships (South African National Biodiversity Institute, South African National Parks, Sustainable Finance Coalition, French Biodiversity Office, National Forestry Office International, Réunion National Park, Food and Agriculture Organization, Ministries, etc.)
Representation of AFD with external counterparts and partners in the region;
Relations with French embassies and other donors, in particular European Union delegations,
Sectoral monitoring: donor activity, contribution to strategic thinking and drafting of position papers in the environmental sectors (water, forests, waste), biodiversity and agriculture in connection with food security issues;
Ensure the materialization of the Southern Africa biodiversity strategy
Development of an AFD agriculture and food security strategy in Southern Africa
Support for communication activities.
Who are we looking for?
1. Skills sought
With a higher education or a graduate of a leading business school, you have acquired a specialization in the environmental, biodiversity and agricultural sectors.
You enjoy teamwork and have excellent writing, analysis and synthesis skills.
You have initial experience in a regional cooperation organization and/or a bilateral or multilateral cooperation agency and have had the opportunity to put these skills into practice in the context of initial international experiences, ideally in a developing country (project management, knowledge of the project cycle). Experience in setting up and monitoring projects will be a plus.
You are particularly motivated by the issues of development aid and by environmental, biodiversity and agricultural issues. Knowledge of the African continent and more specifically of the Southern Africa region would be appreciated.
As the portfolio has a regional scope, travel is expected across Southern Africa. These missions require skills in representation and excellent interpersonal skills with institutions, as well as an ability to operate in isolated areas, requiring observation skills, field analysis and ease in human interactions.

3. Level of education / diploma
You hold a Bac + 5 / Master 2 level diploma obtained from a university, business school or IEP in particular.
4. Languages
Written and oral fluency in English is essential.
