Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Safety Officer – FS (Fixed Term) to join the Project Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Senior Safety Officer, you will be responsible for ensure the safety section maintains an effective and visible presence in the workplace with regards to health and safety management
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Assist with the coordination and implementation of the project Health and Safety plan.
- Provision of advice, support and coaching to contractors and employees alike in relation to management of health and safety risks.
- Review and assist in elaborating risk assessments
- Conduct workplace safety audits and inspections across the site.
- Administer safety related documentation and records.
- Monitor and report on site incident trends, audit reports and corrective action undertaken.
- Facilitate and participate in incident investigations, risk assessments and any other safety forums.
- Monitor compliance on procedures and standards of all project contractors in all construction areas.
- Systematically report to their supervisor on all findings and monitor adequate implementation of corrective actions.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Diploma in OHS or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 (three) years post-qualification experience with at least 2 years in a mining or industrial environment.
- Competent in incident/accident investigation.
- Be physically fit and be able to pass a pre-employment medical examination and annual screening.
- Working knowledge of safety systems, preferably ISO, AS, or NOSA based
- Demonstrated success as an effective leader.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness.
- High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in Zambia.
- Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas Strong report writing and presentation skills.
- Member of relevant Professional Body
- Must have good communication skills in the English language.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Possessing a valid Zambian or SADC driver’s licence.
