Project Title:
Integrated Action for Improving Maternal and Newborn Health in Rwenzori and Busoga regions (WeCare)

Reports To: Project Coordinator
Duty Station: Fort Portal City and Jinja or Kamuli.
Employment Type: Full-time

Contract Duration: Annual, renewable

Working Hours: Shift-based (day and/or night shifts, including weekends and public holidays as required)

Position Purpose

The Security Guard will be responsible for ensuring the physical safety, security, and protection of all BAMA Foundation personnel, visitors, and assets—including critical project equipment such as vehicles, laptops, and medical supplies—within the assigned office and compound. This role is vital to maintaining a secure and orderly environment that enables project staff to focus on implementing life-saving maternal and newborn health interventions without security concerns.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

a) Premises Security and Access Control

·       Guard and protect BAMA Foundation offices, storage facilities, project vehicles, and all assets against theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.

·       Conduct regular, documented patrols (interior and exterior) of the premises to deter and identify potential security risks or safety hazards.

·       Strictly monitor and control all access points, verifying the identity of all staff and visitors. Ensure all visitors are logged, badged (if applicable), and escorted as per BAMA security protocols.

·       Secure the premises at the close of business, ensuring all doors, windows, and gates are properly locked.

a)    Asset Protection and Monitoring

·       Monitor the movement of all organizational assets (e.g., vehicles, fuel, medical equipment, office inventory) in and out of the premises, ensuring proper documentation and authorization is presented.

·       Specifically safeguard high-value project equipment procured for the WeCare project, such as IT equipment, and project vehicles.

·       Support asset verification during periodic inventory checks.

3. Incident Response, Reporting, and Emergency Preparedness

·       Remain vigilant and respond immediately to any security incident, breach, alarm, or emergency situation on the premises.

·       Accurately record and promptly report all incidents, irregularities, suspicious activities, or safety concerns in the security logbook and to the supervisor.

·       Assist in the execution of emergency procedures, including fire response, medical emergencies, or evacuation drills. Know the location and basic use of fire extinguishers and first aid kits.

·       Cooperate fully and professionally with local law enforcement or emergency services if their intervention is required.

4. Professional Conduct and Compliance

·       Adhere strictly to all BAMA Foundation policies, including the Code of Conduct, Safeguarding Policy, and Safety & Security guidelines.

·       Maintain a professional, alert, and courteous demeanor at all times when interacting with staff, visitors, and the public.

·       Uphold the highest levels of integrity, confidentiality, and reliability.

·       Perform any other security-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Person Specification

Required Qualifications and Experience

·       Minimum of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or equivalent.

·       At least 1-2 years of proven experience in a security guard, watchman, or safety role. Experience with an NGO, private security firm, or an institutional setting (hospital, school) is a strong advantage.

·       Formal training/certification in security guarding, safety procedures, or basic firefighting is highly desirable.

Key Skills and Competencies

·       Excellent situational awareness and ability to remain alert during long shifts.

·       Unquestionable personal integrity and trustworthiness.

·       Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully, and to write basic incident reports.

·       Ability to act calmly, decisively, and follow procedures under pressure.

·       Physically fit to perform patrols and stand for extended periods.

Personal Attributes

·       Reliable, disciplined, and punctual.

·       Respectful and courteous.

·       Willing to work flexible shift patterns, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
