Established in 1863, the ICRC operates worldwide, helping people affected by conflict and armed violence and promoting the laws that protect victims of war. An independent and neutral organization, its mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We are based in Geneva, Switzerland, and employ some 14,500 people in more than 80 countries.

The Security & Safety Officer advises the Logistics Support Centre on security risk assessment and associated mitigating measures while ensuring proper diffusion and access to information related to security in line with Duty of Care obligations

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • Closely supervises the deployment of private security guards;
  • Monitors the effective implementation of security procedures and processes them (including monitoring/screening of visitors and staff) by private security guards;
  • Carries out regular checks on fire safety, security and other emergency procedures and report the result of such checks to the Head of Security department;
  • Attends accidents, follows up with the Police to obtain the abstract and liaises with courts for matters pertaining ICRC cases on traffic accidents;
  • Supports the Head of Security department in assessing the safety of locations used by the delegation (office, residences, hotels, training sites, etc);
  • Develops basic external network with actors relevant for the good execution of his/her function (police and other law enforcement agencies, private security companies);
  • Assists in and/or conduct investigations for incidents reported while on duty or when called upon to do so;
  • Contributes to risk analysis undertaken by the delegation and records data into a site’s data base of security incidents, threats and trends.

Professional Experience required

  • Diploma in Criminology/Security management or equivalent;
  • Experience with Military or National Police Services (minimum rank of Corporal and 5 years’ experience);
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a similar function from recognized organizations with excellent references;
  • Valid driving license with minimum of three years’ experience;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point);
  • Organizational skills and sense of responsibility;
  • Honest, high sense of integrity and of confidentiality;
  • Ready to work irregular hours without supervision;
