Position Summary
The Senior Director, Strategy and Impact will serve as a strategic integrator, technical leader, and innovation catalyst, strengthening and amplifying Seed Global Health’s program quality, technical excellence, and measurable impact. The role will identify, design, and scale evidence-informed approaches that improve health workforce education, practice, and policy, strengthen health systems, and improve health outcomes across Seed’s country programs.
At the intersection of clinical education, practice, training, and policy and guided by MEL insights, country experience, and global trends, this role distills Seed’s best practices to shape strategy and elevate quality across all levels.
S/he will also support the articulation of Seed’s evidence and lessons learned through technical products, publications, and representation in professional fora, helping to position Seed as a credible thought leader in advancing county-led, resilient health systems. By aligning partnership outcomes with donor priorities, global health trends, technical innovations, and market opportunities, the Senior Director will chart new pathways for organizational growth. Working collaboratively with Clinical, Programs, MEL, Development, Policy and Communications & Advocacy teams, the Senior Director will ensure that evidence and experience are consistently translated into programmatic improvement, strategic decision-making, and global, regional, and national influence.
A critical responsibility is fostering knowledge flow and collaboration across departments, reducing duplication, and ensuring program quality during a period of rapid growth and change.
This role reports directly to the Chief Program and Innovation Officer (CPIO) and supervises the Director of Programs. This role is global but preference is for candidates based out of any of our program countries of Malawi, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zambia and USA. Please apply by 31st January 2026.
Duties and Responsibilities
Impact and Innovation
- Develop and execute the Impact & Innovations strategy, identify emerging trends, and represent Seed as a thought leader in global health innovation.
- Lead (in close collaboration with MEL, Clinical and Program Teams) the development and refinement of technical and quality standards, tools, and guidance, ensuring consistency and alignment with global best practices and country priorities.
- Design, pilot, and scale innovative models for health workforce education and system strengthening that are evidence-based, evaluated, and integrated into program design and delivery, ensuring alignment with country priorities and donor requirements.
- Co-create and share evidence-driven solutions with country teams, academia, the private sector, and donors that reflect Seed’s mission and commitment to transforming health systems through innovation and collaboration.
- Lead and mentor the Seed Technical team to cultivate a culture of creativity, rigor, innovation, and continuous learning, while ensuring adherence to ethical standards and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with the Director of Programs, who provides strategic leadership for program design, cross-country coherence, and implementation quality, to ensure consistent implementation and accountability across countries.
Strategic Integration and Impact Articulation
- Lead cross-functional coordination across Country, Program, MEL, Communications & Advocacy, Development, and Policy teams to identify and elevate Seed’s most compelling technical evidence and innovations for external amplification.
- Ensure harmonized frameworks and cross-team coherence and consistency across Seed’s pathways of education, practice and policy.
- Synthesize national-level results into technical briefs, case studies, peer-reviewed journal articles, conference posters/presentations, and learning events that demonstrate the impact and value of Seed’s approach.
- Partner with Communications & Advocacy to ensure technical evidence and impact stories are communicated accurately and consistently.
- Enhance knowledge flow across Program, MEL, Policy, Communications & Advocacy, Clinical, and Development teams to drive growth: Partnership results → MEL aggregation → comms packaging → policy & advocacy influencing → donor engagement → strong proposal submissions → new partnerships → increased impact.
Driving Strategic Growth and Global Influence
- Collaborate with Development team to provide technical inputs to proposals, ensuring fidelity to Seed’s model and alignment with country and donor priorities.
- Collaborate with the Development team to scan global health, donor, and market landscapes to identify emerging priorities and opportunities for Seed’s strategic growth and influence.
- Participate in organizational strategy reviews and ensure alignment with country partnerships and global health trends.
- Represent Seed in technical fora, conferences, and global convenings to strengthen visibility, credibility, and partnerships.
- Build and maintain strategic technical relationships with universities, professional associations, multilateral organizations, and government entities to co-create learning opportunities and amplify Seed’s expertise.
Support to CPIO’s Mandate
- Provide synthesis and strategic insights that strengthen the CPIO’s ability to lead organizational strategy and innovation, strengthen Seed’s profile, and attract resources.
- Ensure programmatic work is consistently aligned with Seed’s global strategy and long-term objectives and the shifting, dynamic realities of front-line implementation.
- Partner with the Director of Programs to ensure program quality, operational efficiency, and alignment between strategic frameworks and implementation.
- Contribute to the development of new technical strategies, offerings, and frameworks that strengthen Seed’s global positioning.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive leadership in strategy, technical program design, or impact measurement, with significant experience in global health and health systems strengthening in low- and middle-income countries.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing program quality and technical standards across multi-country portfolios.
- Proven ability to synthesize field-based evidence into high-impact strategic products for donors, policymakers, and health system stewards.
- Track record of leading cross-functional teams and influencing decision-making in matrixed organizations.
- Exceptional writing skills with a strong publication, proposal, and thought leadership background.
- Experience representing organizations in technical fora, international conferences and partnerships with donors, host country governments, and other partners.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze global health, technical, and donor trends, and translate them into actionable insights and strategic recommendations that drive organizational growth, positioning, and influence.
- Advanced degree in public health.
