Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Senior Human Resource Officer – Local Recruitment – FS (Fixed Term) to join the Project Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Human Resource Coordinator, you will be responsible for assisting the recruitment for the locals for the project section and coordinating contractors for all local recruitments.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Follow and monitor the local recruitments for both the project and contractors and complete the tasks as per policy requirements.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and improve holistically local recruitment system performance (from recruitment itself to the educational pipeline improving employment opportunities) with the various stakeholders.
  • Assist Project Contractors in advertising and collection applications for skilled and non-skilled jobs.
  • Promoting the Local Recruitment Policy adherence by the Contractors by making them aware of the policy and its importance to the organisation.
  • Maintain accurate records of local employment program activities and participant progress.
  • Prepare and present reports on compliance with Local Recruitment Policy.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for audits or assessments related to local hiring initiatives.
  • Act as a liaison between the Project Human Resource Department, local communities, and Contractors.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with functional leaders and provide HR support to assist with the achievement of business objectives and goals.
  • Achieve agreed environmental targets, legal compliance and incident prevention.  Lead and promote the development of a culture of workforce environmental care and respect.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders in LMC’s mining activities, consistent with Barrick’s Community Relations Policies.
  • Become actively involved in Barrick’s aims and objectives of engaging with the local community and strive to leave a positive impact on the longer-term outcomes for local people.  Promote the integration between this engagement and the success of the business.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource or equivalent
  • At least Four (4) years of experience in HR management, with a focus on construction, or mining projects.
  • Member of the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management (ZIHRM)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Familiarity with rural communities in Northwestern province is an added advantage
  • Cultural sensitivity and commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace
  • Passion for community development and sustainable employment practices.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving capacity tailored to the mining industry.
  • Strong networking and relationship management skills, particularly in local community contexts.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Be physically fit and be able to pass a pre-employment medical examination
