Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer OR Senior Lecturer in the Department of Architecture & Planning.
Duties:
The successful candidates will
(i) Teach Planning & Design courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Urban & Regional Planning programme;
(ii) supervise undergraduate and graduate student research projects;
(iii) Carry out research in the fields of Urban Planning & Design;
(iv) participate in all academic and professional activities of the department;
(v) carry out any other duties as and when assigned by the Head of Department. For a Senior Lecturer position, to
(vi) provide academic leadership and act as a mentor to junior academic staff;
(vii) raise/solicit research funds from funding agencies within and outside the country; and (viii) develop collaborative relationships with other colleagues in academia and industry within and outside the country.
Requirements:
Senior Lecturer: for appointment at a senior lecturer level, one should demonstrate excellent reputation and leadership in the field, as demonstrated by publications in accredited journals, post graduate supervision and high-level professional involvement. Candidates should have;
(i) A PhD in Urban & Regional Planning or related field, specializing in Urban Design;
(ii) Master’s Degree in Urban Design;
(iii) Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or cognate field;
(iv) A cumulative and sustained record of research and publications with at least 6 pieces of research products published by recognized publishers, 4 of which should be articles in refereed/accredited journals in internationally recognized indexing databases (e.g., Scopus, ISI Web of Science, and IBSS – International Bibliography of the Social Sciences). The remaining 2 publications could be journal articles, book, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceedings, etc. published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of 4 articles in refereed/accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher;
(v) Scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences;
(vi) be lead or single author in at least 2 refereed journal articles;
(vi) Some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions, etc.; (vii) Evidence of experience in university teaching, professional practice, and governance and social engagement activities.
The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications clearly specifying titles of publications, ISBN numbers, (for books, book chapters and conference proceedings), dates published, name of publishers and name(s) of co-authors, if any, and number of pages. The work should be categorized into books, book chapters, refereed journal articles, refereed conference papers, non-refereed works and consultancies.
Lecturer: for appointment at a lecturer level, one have
(i) A PhD in Urban & Regional Planning or related field, specializing in Urban Design;
(ii) Master’s Degree in Urban Design;
(iii) Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or cognate field. The following will be added advantages:
(i) teaching experience in Urban Design at a university or comparable institution,
(ii) experience in professional planning and/or design practice,
(iii) evidence of governance and social engagement, and
(iv) eligibility to register with a recognizable national or international professional body.
N.B. Applicants with Master’s degree in Urban Design with a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban & Regional Planning of at least 2(i) pass/GPA of at least 3.6 on a 5-point scale or equivalent may be considered under special circumstances.
