Job title: Specialist Welder

Purpose
To execute specialized welding tasks and provide technical expertise in welding-related continuous improvement projects within the Smelter Engineering department. The role focuses on achieving operational efficiency, equipment reliability, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
- Welding steel in all positions for various types of projects
- Selection and setup of appropriate welding equipment and methods based on project requirements.
- Interpret Engineering drawings, and welding symbols to determine welding requirements.
- Testing and inspecting welded surfaces for flaws to ensure only highly quality work is released for installation
- Cutting steel using plasma, oxy acetylene and other cutting methods
- Perform complex mechanical installations per engineering direction.
- Lay out and install piping, equipment, and other mechanical systems in compliance with construction drawings and specifications.
- Maintaining equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure project deadlines are met.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Grade Twelve (Grade 12)
- Craft/Trade Certificate in Metal Fabrication and Welding from recognized institution
- EIZ Certification
Experience
- At least 5 years’ work experience.
- Proven experience as a 6G Welder or similar role, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
- Proficiency in welding techniques, including GTAW, SMAW, and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW).
- Certification in coded welding preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols.
