Main Tasks and Responsibilities
- Document and process all financial transactions including payroll and enter them into Zoho books online accounting software or relevant accounting software for all the startups
- Extract Monthly management accounts for all the startups and share them with all startups
- Extract revenues from all startup accounting software and update the M&E excel sheet.
- Compute and file for taxes and other statutory obligations as required by the authorities for all portfolio startups
- Review and recommend improvements in our accounting and financial management structures to ensure compliance with current accounting standards.
- Review and recommend tax planning techniques for startups to minimize their tax burden and take advantage of strategies that the tax law allows.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, with a major in business, finance, accounting or economics. CPA Level 1 is an added advantage.
- 2-3 years of experience as an accountant
- You have worked for a startup or in a startup environment, and/or have worked in supporting startups to grow.
- You are willing to work beyond the job description, wear many hats, and roll with constant change.
- Experience working with startups, SMEs, or entrepreneurial support programs, preferably in Africa.
- Strong understanding of financial structures
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for solving startup financial problems.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Hands-on experience with accounting software like Zoho books, Manager IO Loan disk management
- Hands-on experience with accounting software like Zoho books, Manager IO, ERP system
- Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills
