About The African Theatre Magazine (TATM)
The African Theatre Magazine (TATM) is an online media platform committed to documenting, archiving, and celebrating contemporary and historical theatre works of African artists on and off the continent.
Position Summary
- The Strategic Development Officer will play a key role in strengthening TATM’s sustainability, growth, and impact. The role focuses on strategic planning, resource mobilisation, partnerships management, and organisational development, working closely with management to align programs with TATM’s mission and long-term vision.
Reports to: Managing Director
- This role is based in Uganda and will involve a combination of remote work and in-person engagements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development, review, and implementation of TATM’s strategic and development plans.
- Identify, develop, and manage funding opportunities including grants, donor support, sponsorships, and partnerships.
- Grant writing, management, reporting, and fundraising documentation.
- Research and build strategic partnerships with arts & cultural institutions, and government, non-government and private sector stakeholders.
- Conduct organisational and sector research to identify opportunities, risks, and emerging trends in arts, culture, creative industries, nonprofit media organisations.
- Support monitoring, evaluation, and documentation of impact and outcomes.
- Advise management on sustainability models, innovation, and institutional strengthening.
- Represent TATM in meetings, forums, and development-related engagements when required.
Qualifications & Experience
Required qualifications & experience
- A degree in Business Administration, Strategic Management, Arts Management, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field.
- At least 2–3 years of experience in strategic development for arts and culture organisation, or public sector.
- Proven successful in fundraising for Arts and Cultural organisations, or other public institutions. , grant writing, management and reporting.
- Understanding of non-profit development, donor engagement, and project sustainability.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Strong organisational, analytical, and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment.
Preferred qualifications & experience
- Passion for arts, culture, theatre, and creative industries in Africa.
- Understanding of digital media platforms, online publishing, and content-driven organisations.
- Experience working with or supporting media organisations, online magazines, cultural publications, or creative platforms.
- Awareness of how storytelling, editorial strategy, and digital visibility support organisational growth and fundraising.
