The purpose of this role is to drive the crushing and pit construction operations toward achieving production goals in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner. By doing so, the superintendent contributes significantly to the mine’s overall success and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations and strategic planning /design /implementation/ progress, budgets and schedules of the crushing and pit construction activities within a large copper and gold mining operation.
- Ensure that production targets are met safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
- Manage and lead a team of operators, technicians, and contractors, focusing on optimizing
- Manage and lead cross-functional teams to execute projects successfully by providing guidance and support through various stages of the project life cycle.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental policies when executing any work-related activities.
- Develop strategies to minimize risks associated with construction projects and implement measures to mitigate potential issues before they become major problems.
- Effectively communicate with the business and cross functional departments regarding project status updates, changes or delays if necessary.
- Keep accurate records of all relevant documentation related to each project, including contracts, agreements, schedules etc.
- Coordinate meetings between key stakeholders such as engineers, architects, contractors, subcontractors and other professionals involved in the project.
- Review invoices received from contractors and submit them for payment after verification of their authenticity and accuracy.
- Perform quality control checks on completed work to guarantee adherence to specifications outlined in contract documents.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, or similar field preferred but not required; equivalent experience may substitute for education requirements.
- Proven 10-15 years’ experience managing large scale civil engineering projects preferably involving crushing pits.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of construction methods and materials used in crushing pit projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other software applications commonly used in project management such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, etc.
- Excellent organizational skills to handle multiple tasks at once without compromising attention to detail or deadlines.
- Ability to make sound decisions quickly based on available information under pressure situations.
- Good written and verbal communication skills essential for conveying technical information clearly and concisely both in writing and speaking engagements.
- Must possess high levels of integrity, accountability, reliability, resourcefulness, discipline and initiative.
- Able to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and priorities while remaining focused on achieving goals set forth.
