Job description

You will lead One Acre Fund’s government engagement in Tanzania, forging strategic partnerships with senior government and political leaders to achieve the country vision of serving smallholder farmers. By shaping and advocating for farmer-friendly policies, you will identify growth opportunities and mitigate regulatory risks, improve collaboration with external agencies, and ensure a culture of compliance. You will report directly to the Country Director and manage the local Government Relations Team to expand One Acre Fund’s impact.

Responsibilities

  • Government Relations Team Leadership: Provide guidance to the local GR team, aligning its work with One Acre Fund’s vision and objectives.
  • Strategic Collaborations: Build networks with government institutions, parliamentarians, NGOs, and private-sector partners to lead policy advocacy and pursue initiatives—such as advancing productivity, climate resilience, and market access—that support One Acre Fund’s country objectives.
  • Regulatory & Risk Management: Track political and regulatory changes, address potential barriers, and maintain compliance with national requirements.
  • Partner Outreach: Organize high-level visits, deliver targeted briefings, and promote One Acre Fund’s programs at parliamentary/cabinet levels.
  • Coordination: Work with other department heads to design compliance training, reinforce accountability, and integrate government relations into broader organizational goals.
  • Policy Advocacy: Represent One Acre Fund’s interests with regulators and authorities, influencing policy that benefits farmers and fosters sustainable growth.

Career Growth and Development

We have a strong culture of constant learning and we invest in developing our people. You’ll have weekly check-ins with your manager, access to mentorship and training programs, and regular feedback on your performance. We hold career reviews every six months, and set aside time to discuss your aspirations and career goals. You’ll have the opportunity to shape a growing organization and build a rewarding long-term career.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • 4+ years’ experience in government or external relations, policy advocacy, or related fields, within the Tanzanian context
  • In-depth knowledge of Tanzanian government structures, regulations, and political processes
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, International Relations or a related field
  • Partner management skills: relationships with government officials, partner organizations, and our teams
  • Analytical and risk management expertise: track regulatory changes, preempt barriers, and mitigate issues
  • Communication: convey complex information to diverse audiences, both in writing and in person
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili is required.
