Qualifications and Experience
- At least a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing/Metallurgical Engineering, Geological/Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent, passed with at least a Lower Second (2.2) degree classification;
- Teaching assistant experience at tertiary level or hands-on mining industry experience in related fields, as well membership of a professional body such as the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers are not a must but desirable.
Duties and Responsibilities
The main role of a teaching assistant is to provide support to the course instructor to ensure the effective delivery of the required materials and to foster a positive learning environment for students. The responsibilities of Teaching Assistants are highly variable, but can include:
- Assisting faculty with lecture room instruction, records, and assignments;
- Meeting with students during office hours;
- Leading group projects or discussions;
- Grading assignments or papers;
- Managing course communications;
- Preparing laboratory materials;
- Providing feedback on assignments;
- Enforcing laboratory rules and procedures;
- Participating in University Teaching, Research, Community Engagement, Innovation and Industrialization activities in their area of specialization, leading to tangible products and services, in contribution to the achievement of Education 5.0 by the Department.
