Job description

Under the guidance and supervision of the Director WLO AU_UNECA, WLO/Ethiopia, the incumbent’s tasks and responsibilities are as follows: Provide technical support in the implementation of activities defined in the joint work plans between WHO, the African Union Commission (AUC) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA);Contribute to the dissemination of WHO guidelines, norms and standards; Maintain smooth communication and facilitate information sharing ;Closely monitor AU and ECA health related events and provide timely feedback; Prepare and disseminate activity reports as required; Develop concept notes for initiatives which may be undertaken jointly with AUC and/or UNECA; Follow-up implementation of joint work plans and of the work of the UN Liaison team; regularly reporting status to WLO head.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Advanced university degree in public health, business administration, Management, communications, international relations or a related field;
Desirable: Master’s in Public Health.

Experience

Essential: Minimum of (7) years’ experience executing public health initiatives and developing proposals for such work; Experience in WHO or other UN organizations would be an asset;
Desirable: Good knowledge of the structure and functions of the AUC, ECA and RECs. Understanding WHO’s mandate and goals as related to the African setting. Knowledge of WHO administrative and financial rules, procedures and practices would be an advantage

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 77,326 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3931 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
