Key Responsibilities:
Technical Programme Support
- Support Area Programs (APs) in capacity building of agronomic practices that promote increased productivity while maintain the natural resources (including; soils, water and biodiversity) around cropping & grazing lands.
- Responsible for crop production & management, soil health, pest control and ensuring compliance with agricultural standards.
- Ensure all agriculture interventions in World Vision Zambia (WVZ) are aligned to national agriculture polices & frameworks (such as the Comprehensive Agriculture Transformation Program)
- Ensure close working relationships with relevant government departments (Agriculture, Livestock & fisheries) at national and sub national level.
- Promote Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) using World Vision approved models such Regreen our Communities, Farming Gods Way and incorporating Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration & Agro forestry techniques.
- Work in an integrated manner with other Technical Programs (Health, iWASH, Education) to identify nutrition sensitive crops/value chains, Productive uses of water, support Production Units / Environmental clubs in schools respectively.
- Ensure compliance with environmentally friendly & sustainable agronomic practices & regulations
- Represent WVZ in agriculture & climate related forums & Networks both locally and international.
- Build capacity of local agriculture partners / CBO for effective implementation of agriculture production & climate related intervention in APs.
- Provide technical support and leadership to Area Programmes (APs) in the Agriculture Production, Climate adaptation & resilience to ensure that parents and care givers produce nutritious foods that meet the dietary needs of children.
- Work closely with Resource Mobilization department to support the design of quality agriculture & climate resilience technical proposals within the EL&R technical program.
- Work closely with M&E to ensure data on production trends and hectarage is captured.
- Assess and support APs with agriculture activity implementation to ensure that the programme is within scope, time and budget.
- Working closely with communications department to ensure agriculture & Climate information, education and communication (IEC) materials are in place for effective implementation.
People Management
- Facilitate agriculture Production & Climate related Training of Trainers (TOT) of partners, WVZ technical program staff, other stakeholders to ensure effective implementation.
- Support staff orientation and participate in capacity building of technical staff through coaching and mentoring for increased/enhanced competency
- Provide input in performance appraisal for technical programme staff at AP level for increased accountability.
Networking, Collaboration and Liaison
- Represent WVZ in various key meetings including agriculture / climate change Technical Working Group (TWG) for alignment to National priorities.
- Build and maintain technical relationship with internal and external Agric/stakeholders for enhanced collaboration.
Programme Effectiveness and Quality Assurance
- Support research/Studies on agriculture & climate related topics and produce technical briefs for sharing with key stakeholders.
- Participate and review data collection tools in conducting research/studies to generate lessons learnt for agriculture production & climate resilience intervention.
- Utilize and adapt learning from monitoring and evaluation processes to inform programming.
- Consolidate and review monthly, quarterly and annual agriculture reports for timely submission.
- Ensure all emerging agriculture industry technical standards are captured, documented and shared across APs

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:
- Degree in Agriculture Sciences (Crop Science) with minimum of 7 years’ experience in the relevant field
- Master’s Degree in Agriculture Sciences (Crop Science) or its equivalent is an added advantage with minimum 5 years’ experience
- Experience in Program Management in a complex, international organization preferably NGO context
- Must have Strong agriculture & climate resilience skills with practical experience in CSA, Disaster Risk Reduction / shocks, vulnerability and capacity assessments
- Must be a member of the Agricultural Institute of Zambia
- Knowledge and understanding of World Vision operations would be an added advantage,
- Experience in project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and report writing essential
- Must have excellent communications, interpersonal, analytical, decision making, conflict management, negotiation, networking, liaison and donor engagement skills
- Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment, and must be a mature Christian.
- Computer literate in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Capacity to function well in a team and contribute effectively to team efforts.
Working Environment / Conditions:
- Work environment: Office-based 40% : field 60%
- Travel: international as required.
