The Trade Finance Officer will provide support to the Manager, Trade Finance by monitoring and implementing the unit’s strategic objectives to increase trade finance income and business volumes through existing & new Trade Products to be roLled out
Key Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)
• Drive the growth of Trade Finance income and business volumes as per set performance targets through Trade finance products to identified customers to Corporate & Retail Banking segments
• Carry out product re-engineering and rollout customized trade finance products to the existing portfolio.
• Agree on the Departments budgets in conjunction with head of department and ensure that products/processes are in place to monitor performance against budget.
• Maintain existing client base and acquisition of new business from the market.
• Ensure adherence to statutory and bank legal requirements in relation to operations in Trade Finance front office.
• Liaise with internal business units (internal customers) supported by service areas under my control to ensure that plans are developed to support future requirements.
• Support Relationship Managers to market customized products introduced to grow incomes and business volumes.
• Carry out market intelligence on trade products and pricing models on a regular basis to ensure that the bank remains competitive.
• Prepare and deliver presentations to customers.
• Grow Trade Finance portfolio and customer base by on boarding key clients where Trade business has been identified.
• Expand the Bank’s product offering to current and prospective customers through product features enhancement and promotion of traditional and innovative trade related products.
• Understand clients’ businesses and anticipate their requirements through consultative cross selling. To match clients’ needs with product capabilities through presentation of tailored proposals in order to maximize revenue and profitability.
• Be a crucial part of the solution implementation and follow up team to ensure client inconvenience is minimized.
• Provide advisory and guidance services to the relationship managers, operations staff, credit risk teams and branch network in relation to trade finance related products and transactions.
• Co-ordinate utilization reports for Structured Trade Finance facilities and other Trade products between the back office and credit risk for purposes of monitoring.
• Co-ordinate audit activities for the department when due.
• Ensure effective escalation and resolution of operational issues covering areas under direct control.
• Assist customers resolve problems where the cause appears to be within own area of responsibility.
• Initiate actions to overcome problems identified in meeting the service levels.
• Ensure agreed SLAs with the department are adhered to by all parties.
• Conduct product training to Bank staff across the bank.
• Develop and agree on an annual basis, individual and team performance objectives, standards and targets.
• Review regularly performance against agreed objectives.
• Identify development and training needs and develop plans to satisfy areas identified.
Job Specifications
Academic:
• A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University.
Professional:
• Professional Banking Qualification (CFTP) is an added advantage
Desired work experience:
• At least 3 years work experience in Banking with two years in Trade Finance
• Experience in selling Trade Finance products.
• Experience in relationship management and service delivery
