AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) has operations in more than ten countries across four continents. Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 120 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s Southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. The company has its main office and operations in Geita, only 5 Km’s west of the fast-growing town of Geita, and a supporting office in Dar es Salaam. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Trade Person 1 – Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and correct operation of the crane, ensuring compliance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the established safe system of work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) or equivalent.
Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Rigging or equivalent.
Valid Crane Operator’s Certificate.
Registered Rigger with an approved body.
Scaffolding Certification.

EXPERIENCE:

The incumbent must have at least 5 years of experience in crane and rigging operations within the mining industry or a similar industry.

MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Demonstrate positive approach to work and to Geita Gold Mine Safety Standards
Direction of cranes using internationally recognized hand signals for lifting operations carrying out day to day lifting operations using lifting accessories.
Understand and react to internationally recognized hand signals for lifting operations.
Adherence to lift plans, JSA’s, take 5 and method statements.
Participate actively to company strategy regarding safety. Participate in Daily, weekly, monthly & managerial briefs.
Understand load weight estimation, center of gravity, effects of angles on lifting equipment.
Carry out Quarterly color coding of portable lifting equipment and update registers.
Confirm lifting radius and weights. Ensuring correctly sized equipment is used.
Operate and control the mobile crane 250t,160t,63t,Truck mounted crane (HI-AB),Telehandlers, Forklift and Cherry Picker.
Undergo Training programs to acquire and maintain certification for operating various lifting machinery.
Reporting back to supervisor daily
Conduct Crane Lifting Operations in a safe and timely manner.
Adhere to safe working practices and capture of safe working documents, Lift Plans, take 5, JSA’s, Lift Studies, Lifting Permits, Plant Permits and Electrical Isolation Permits and Method Statements
Actively participate in safety meetings and during Toolbox Talks
Adhere to Health, Safety & Security Policies as well as Tanzania Laws guiding Lifting Operations.
To carry out day to day operations of related tasks to Crane Operators throughout the GGM Mine Complex.
To conduct day to day operations of related tasks to Rigging Operators throughout the GGM Mine Complex.
Examination of portable lifting equipment before and after use.
Quarantine defective lifting accessories.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Heavy equipment operation skills and certified and licensed crane operator.
International Rigging certification and proficient in crane operations.
Skilled in rigging and lifting techniques with a thorough knowledge of tools and equipment.
Awareness of safety requirements and experience with track cranes (IHI 275 tons) and telescopic cranes (15 to 250 tons).
Excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
Strong field observational skills and problem-solving abilities.
Detailed understanding of rigging and lifting critical controls.
Capable of working with minimum supervision, showing ethical behavior, and maintaining focus and stability.
Attention to detail and effective teamwork and cooperation.
