Key responsibilities of the Women’s Health Social Worker include but are not limited to:
- Participating in training sessions to upskill in gender-based violence (GBV) – specifically intimate partner violence (IPV) detection, referral, support.
- Provide counselling and support to all women referred to and were willing to see the social
- Capturing data onto digital programme
- Keep extensive social work notes on all patient
- Making referral to appropriate NGO if patient agrees, for further counseling and or
- Working with screening staff as hospital staff to ensure smooth integration of the screening and counselling interventions.
- Regular feedback to Projects Manager/Head of Social work re any challenges/feedback to improve screening and referrals processes.
- To avail yourself for supervision and debriefing by the social work supervisors in the relevant hospital units
Qualifications and Requirements
The Women’s Health Social Worker must meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or equivalent qualification
- Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professionals as a social worker
- Experience working as a social worker
- Research experience advantageous
- Passion for Women’s Health particular interest gender-based violence initiatives Computer literacy
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills Counselling and assessment skills
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills Attention to detail
- High degree of autonomy and initiative
- Fluent in Afrikaans and English
