ROLE SUMMARY

The investment manager will assist in engaging stakeholders, growing and managing our investment pipeline. This role will help local businesses to prepare for approaching, engaging with and receiving investments. The goal of this role is to increase the success of local small and growing businesses in Malawi with attracting capital.

Successful candidates will have a strong background in business planning, financial modeling, due diligence, and communicating with business managers and investors. Ideally, the candidate has prior advisory experience. Successful candidates will be comfortable working in frontier markets, working on detailed documents, creating high quality investment presentations and documents, learning and working with foreign cultures, and will be adaptive and emotionally intelligent, patient and an excellent communicator. The successful candidates will also be strong trainers, exceptional writers, and capable of handling data analysis and a variety of business consulting and coaching work. S/he will receive comprehensive onboarding and critical support from Renew Capital’s leadership team and will be involved in a high-impact role creating significant social and financial impact on the continent.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for Renew Capital’s Malawi investment process, including,
  • Ecosystem and stakeholder mapping
  • Sourcing and engagement plans
  • Screening processes
  • First interview and deal screening forms
  • Term sheets, financial models & due diligence reports
  • Recommendations and presentations to investment committees
  • Managing the closing process
• Training and coaching portfolio companies and supporting with portfolio management activities
• Building strategic plans, financial models and pitch decks in partnership with companies
• Developing strong and trusted relationships with stakeholders
• Helping to develop and facilitate Renew Capital’s core gender-smart programs by training, coaching and supporting SMEs
• Reporting to and collaborating with Renew Capital’s management team on a regular basis to continuously improve SOPs and efficiency in delivering investment results

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or development is preferred
• 5+ years of management consulting and/or advisory experience
• Experience providing financial advisory services to businesses
• Experience raising capital for companies
• A keen eye for detail and sharp analytical skills
• Knowledge in financial modeling
• Proficiency in writing reports in English
• Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills
