Roles and Responsibilities
Compliance:
– Ensure compliance with requirements of the Department of Social Development with regard to funding for support programmes.
– Implement programmes for cancer patients and their families.
– Submit monthly support documents of outputs achieved to Line Manager.
Cancer Control:
– Establish and maintain mentoring teams to mentor and coach patient care volunteers and offer professional service to patients and families.
– Improve and maintain referral systems to offer Home Base Care to patients.
– Establish and maintain support groups to offer emotional support to patients and families.
– Deliver psychosocial support to cancer patients, caregivers, and people affected by cancer.
– Provide telephonic counselling as a psychosocial support offering to cancer patients, their caregivers, and people affected by cancer.
– Ensure that admin is maintained according to CANSA policies, including the completion of prescribed patient care forms, capturing on CANSA online, and adequate record keeping.
Relationship/Team Development:
– Introduce CANSA’s national programmes and ensure an in-depth understanding of objectives and standards related to these programmes.
– Network with influential role players within the community to enhance/support the achievement of goals.
– Ensure complete and accurate information is captured and reported to appropriate databases in accordance with established timelines.
– Present a professional image both internally and externally.
Volunteer Support:
– Analyse community needs and compile an action plan to penetrate the community and ensure active involvement in the fight against cancer.
– Recruit, train, equip, and support CANSA volunteers.
– Provide information, support, and guidance to CANSA volunteers in their areas of responsibility.
– Provide emotional support and debriefing for volunteers.
– Ensure adherence to CANSA standards, policies, and procedures in all CANSA community structures.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker with proof of qualifications and registration with SACSSP
- Minimum of 3 years’ Social Worker experience in a similar role
- Valid Code 8 Driver’s Licence and own transport
- Non-Smoker
- Excellent Interpersonal, Time Management & Organisational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software, internet-based applications and computer equipment
- Exceptional Written & Verbal Communication skills, bilingual in English & Afrikaans, another official language will be advantageous
- Effective public presentations, able to facilitate group discussions
- Knowledge of grant and proposal writing
- Professional attitude and appearance
