Duties

At the entry level of this position, you will:

• Perform budget execution support duties.
• Participate in reviews, edits, and consolidations of the annual and multi-year budget estimates into a single budget request.
• Verify relative costs and benefits of alternative program plans.
• Identify and analyze trends in the receipt, obligation, or expenditure of funds. You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.

Qualifications

Qualifications are based on an evaluation of a candidate’s education and qualifying experience. To qualify for the GS-07 level, you must have one of the following:

• 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level defined as analyzing budgetary or financial data; and preparing written reports on findings and results;
• 1 full year of graduate level education; or superior academic achievement (Superior Academic Achievement Definition); the education must provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position;
• equivalent combination of education and experience. To qualify for the GS-09 level, you must have one of the following:
• 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level defined as advising stakeholders on the submission of annual budget requests; monitoring budgetary obligations and expenditures; and identifying and preparing reports on differences between spending and projected estimates;
• master’s or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related; the education must provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position;
• equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
