” Let your character or moral disposition be free from the love of money [ including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [ circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] himself has said , I will not in any way fail you nor give up nor leave you without support. [ I will ] not [ I will ] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax my hold on you)! [assuredly not!]”
Heb 13:5
The LORD doesn’t mind us having all things, he however doesn’t want things having us. He doesn’t want us to become dominated by money, wants or needs. There are people who will do anything for money, and material gain. They can even marry someone they don’t love as long as it’s for material gain. Delilah sold out Samson for money. There are those who can kill others to sell body parts and some for Juju, the ultimate intention is to possess this or that which is earthly. God hates poverty and has prepared for us a glorious and prosperous life In Christ, he also has prepared a righteous way for us to walk in riches and prosperity. You should never lose sleep because of any material thing you don’t possess. People who live their lives chasing things suppose their chase will stop one day but never realize it will never stop. At the end these folks live a frustrated life.
In Luke 12:15 The LORD JESUS said ” Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” Never measure success in the abundance of materials one possess. You can live a great life and never own a mansion. That doesn’t mean owning a mansion is wrong, you can pursue greater opportunities from a position of rest, comfort and contentment. The fact that somebody bought a bigger house does not mean God is not with you. We may never all be millionaires but that doesn’t mean we are all failures. Learn to celebrate what you have. Sometimes we are so needy conscious that we don’t even see how God has lifted us. The things we used to pray for, now we give freely but we may still be frustrated, that is a terrible way to live.
Apostle Paul said ” No, I have learned in whatever condition I am, to be independent of circumstances. I am schooled to bear the depths of poverty, and I am schooled to bear abundance. In life as a whole, and all its circumstances, I have mastered the secret of living – how to be the same amidst repletion and starvation, amidst abundance and privation. I am equal to every lot through the help of Him who gives me inward strength” (Philippians 4:11 –13 A.S. Way Translation). People quote the 13th verse without knowing what Apostle Paul referred to. Don’t let your life be a burden of financial or material concerns. Don’t compare yourself with so and so, live your life according to your purpose in God and be happy with yourself and family. Fill your life with love, peace and joy, these are key things money can’t buy. Make money but don’t live your life chasing it, be content with what you have.
