Are you detail-oriented and experienced in managing billing processes in a healthcare environment? Veteran Mission Hospital in Syokimau, Nairobi, is seeking a diligent and efficient Billing Officer to handle inpatient and outpatient billing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the billing process for inpatient and outpatient services, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and issue invoices to patients, insurance companies, and other third-party payers.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain pre-authorization for procedures as required.
  • Ensure all patient charges are accurately recorded and billed in accordance with hospital policies and insurance guidelines.
  • Reconcile patient accounts and address any discrepancies promptly.
  • Handle patient inquiries and resolve billing issues in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Collaborate with the medical and administrative staff to ensure accurate documentation and coding of services.
  • Monitor and follow up on outstanding accounts receivable, ensuring timely collections.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient billing records and documentation.
  • Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies and follow up on unpaid or rejected claims.
  • Generate billing reports and provide regular updates to the finance department.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant billing regulations and hospital policies.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the billing process.
  • Provide training and support to other staff members on billing procedures and software.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of patient financial information.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Management or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Strong knowledge of billing procedures, insurance processes, and healthcare regulations.
  • Proficiency in using billing software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
