The position holder will support different research projects, the operation of a dynamic
research group and managing data.
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Project and Data Management:
• Coordinate and support the group’s project activities, ensuring they align with project
goals and deadlines; and,
• Oversee the organization, storage, and management of large-scale genomic data,
ensuring its accuracy, security, and accessibility for the research team.
2. Communication Management:
• Set up and manage relevant communication platform for the group and Slack channels
to facilitate seamless communication within the team; and,
• Monitor and moderate channels to ensure relevant discussions and information sharing.
3. Team Management:
• Plan, schedule, and facilitate regular group meetings to discuss project progress and
address challenges; and,
• Document meeting outcomes and action items and follow up on their completion.
4. Operational Strategy and Planning:
• Develop and implement strategic operational plans aligned with the research
organization’s objectives and goals; and,
• Collaborate with Principal Investigators to establish organizational priorities and allocate
resources accordingly.
5. Manuscript Preparation and Submission:
• Proof-read manuscripts and ensure they adhere to journal submission guidelines; and,
• Coordinate manuscript submission to relevant journals, liaising with authors and journals
as needed.
6. Website and Social Media Management:
• Create, update, and maintain the research group’s website to showcase the group’s work
and activities effectively; and,
• Manage and regularly post updates on the group’s activities, research findings, and
important announcements on various social media platforms e.g. Twitter, LinkedIn.
7. Grant Management and Financial Reporting:
• Assist in the preparation, submission, and management of grants by coordinating with
team members and providing necessary documentation and information; and,
• Coordinate grant finances and reporting by liaising with Unit RSO ensuring compliance
with funding agency guidelines.
8. Diary and Group Meetings Management:
• Organize and manage schedules, appointments, and group meetings for research group
members; and,
• Prepare agendas, document minutes, and follow up on action items from group meetings.
9. Collaboration Liaison:
• Act as a key point of contact and facilitate communication with regional and global
collaborators, ensuring effective collaboration and information exchange; and,
• Act as the main contact for the group in the Unit and LSHTM activities.
10. Administrative Support:
• Provide administrative assistance to the research group, including organizing paperwork,
maintaining records, and assisting with logistics.
11. Financial Responsibility:
• Ensure proper accountability of project resources in line with MRC/UVRI & LSHTM
Person Specification
• MSc in Bioinformatics
• Bachelor’s degree in biomedical laboratory technology, Bachelor of Science degree –
Biochemistry, a degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology and any other related
degree;
• GCP training;
• Should possess at least two years’ proven experience in managing research projects and
teams;
• Proficiency in research methodologies and data analysis techniques;
• Familiarity with project management software/tools;
• Should possess strong IT and social media management skills;
• Knowledge of relevant compliance and ethical considerations in research;
