AMI combines a cutting-edge web and mobile learning platform with content from Africa’s most prestigious business schools and an innovative peer accountability system …

  • AMI is seeking a strategic and analytical finance leader to join AMI as the Group Head of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A). This newly designed role will play a pivotal part in shaping the organization’s financial future and long-term strategy. The role will lead financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and performance analysis across our pan-African operations, supporting data-driven decision-making and capital efficiency.
  • This is a high-impact role for a commercially astute finance professional who thrives in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments and is passionate about enabling African enterprises to scale sustainably.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Partner with the CFO and senior leadership team to drive long-term financial strategy and performance
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts, including income, expenditure, cash flow, and capital planning
  • Develop and maintain dynamic financial models to support scenario analysis, resource allocation, and investment decisions

Reporting & Insights

  • Design and improve systems for monthly management reporting, business unit analysis, and variance tracking
  • Provide timely, data-driven insights on performance trends and recommend corrective actions where needed
  • Monitor and evaluate key financial KPIs and develop dashboards that enable real-time visibility and accountability

Business Partnering

  • Collaborate with heads of departments and regional leads to build capacity in financial understanding and ownership
  • Support strategic projects including pricing, market expansion, donor-funded program analysis, and cost optimization

Governance & Tools

  • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and digital tools that enable scalability and compliance
  • Ensure financial practices align with internal controls, external regulations, and AMI’s operational needs

Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a small FP&A team, fostering a culture of curiosity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide professional development opportunities and build a succession-ready team

Requirements

  • A Masters degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CFA) preferred
  • Minimum 8+ years’ experience in financial planning & analysis, corporate finance, or strategic finance roles
  • At least 5 years in a leadership or senior managerial role, preferably in a fast-growth, multi-country context
  • Demonstrated experience in financial modeling, data analysis, and performance measurement
  • Advanced Excel and financial systems experience (e.g., ERP, BI tools, Power BI, Tableau). Oracle Netsuite is an advantage
  • Strong commercial mindset with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills; ability to work cross-functionally with diverse teams
  • Self-driven, hands-on, and adaptable; thrives in ambiguous environments
  • Passion for AMI’s mission of enabling African businesses to thrive through practical skills and innovation
