Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to use your project and people management skills to lead a team of senior staff across key support functions. As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), you will provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure the efficient and effective management of all support services for MAG’s activities in South Sudan including Finance, Logistics, Human Resources, IT, Facilities Management and Administration. You will be key in overseeing that all programme support service systems are robust and working to enhance efficiency and minimise risk, whilst ensuring the programme’s operation is compliant with donor requirements and with MAG’s internal policies and procedures.

About you:

You will have international senior management experience, preferably with a humanitarian agency,  having managed projects, HR, Finance and Logistics functions, in complex, high volume operations. You will need experience of developing and implementing management systems in these areas, and demonstrate the ability to develop new business proposals and budgets in competitive environments. You will have excellent people management experience, with proven ability to lead, and be a dynamic, motivated, flexible self-starter, able to hit the ground running. The Head of Support Services will be sensitive to cultural differences, able to work in a wide variety of cultural contexts and have the willingness and ability to work both at strategic and operational levels, with hand-on approach when required. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced support services professional to take the next step in their career and grow their strategic and operational skills in a senior, varied and autonomous role.

About the South Sudan programme:

South Sudan is one of the youngest, poorest and least developed countries world-wide. The 2013 outbreak of hostilities has led to thousands of people being killed or wounded, and hundreds of thousands of people being displaced by the violence.  MAG has been working in South Sudan since 2004, to clear landmines/unexploded ordnance and deliver mine risk education to at-risk populations.

Benefits and further information:

MAG staff are rewarded with comprehensive benefits – you can read the candidate information sheet in the application pack for further details:

  • Salary£66,932 per annum including all allowances and this increases with service.
  • Accommodation: MAG will provide accommodation in-country.
  • Leave: We recognise our staff work hard and need the appropriate time out to stay motivated. You’ll have a minimum of eight weeks out of the programme per year.
  • Flights: MAG provides three international flights home per year
  • Insurance: Programme based staff are automatically covered by MAG’s comprehensive insurance package including: Personal accident and medical expenses insurance; Death by natural causes insurance and access to 24-hour medical assistance.

MAG will support the successful applicant with any visa or work permit required, including application, administration and costs, however applicants will need to be able to obtain these within a reasonable time period to be considered for the role, due to programme needs.

Please note that as part of MAG’s commitment to safeguarding, this post is subject to background checks before an offer of employment is confirmed.
