Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position Project Civil Engineer – FS (Fixed Term) to join the Project Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Lead Civil Engineer – FS, you will be responsible for facilitate seamless project execution by managing schedules, budgets, and stakeholder communication. Responsible for coordinating with contractors, procuring resources, and ensuring safety and quality compliance, the role will play a crucial part in delivering successful construction projects on time and within budget.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Collaborate with project managers to develop, update, and maintain comprehensive project schedules, budgets, and timelines. Ensure alignment with project goals and objectives.
  • Schedule and facilitate meetings, site visits, and inspections with internal teams, external contractors, and clients.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks or delays, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare regular progress reports and updates for management and stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Prepare, review, and distribute essential project documentation, including contracts, change orders, RFIs (Requests for Information), and meeting minutes. Maintain organized project files and records for easy retrieval and reference.
  • Coordinate with procurement teams, subcontractors, and vendors to procure materials, equipment, and services required for projects.
  • Ensure timely delivery, installation, and quality assurance of all materials and equipment.
  • Proactively identify and address project-related issues, conflicts, and changes.
  • Effectively collaborate with other disciplines to develop and implement effective solutions that minimize disruptions and maintain project momentum.
  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to monitor construction activities, ensuring compliance with safety standards, quality controls, and contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate with site supervisors and safety officers to address any non-compliance issues promptly.
  • Assist in monitoring project budgets, expenditures, and financial performance.
  • Work closely with the finance team to track project costs, approve invoices, and reconcile financial discrepancies in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Facilitate the project closeout process, including the preparation of punch lists, final inspections, and documentation.
  • Ensure all deliverables are completed to the satisfaction of clients and stakeholders and assist in the smooth transition of projects to the operational phase.
  • Ensure effective communication with delegate prior to departure from site.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering or construction supervision.
  • Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering construction projects on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, MS Office Suite, MS Project, Primavera, or other project management software.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and safety standards.
  • Be physically fit and be able to pass a pre-employment medical examination.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English and show a commitment to understand local culture and impart your mining operations and technical knowledge to subordinates
