To drive the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) dimensions into the business and operations of the Commercial Division in order to deliver a financially viable business that engages with society and the environment in non-destructive, long term value-creating manner.

Requirements

Under the supervision of the Chief Commercial Officer the following are among the Job Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and own a commercial sustainability strategy in collaboration with business unit heads to achieve the Commercial and overall bank’s sustainability ambitions
  • Manage relationships with external strategic partners and stakeholders such as regulators, independent reviewers and development institutions in regards to sustainability
  • Act as central sustainability liaison for Commercial and drive collaboration with other functions to achieve the bank’s sustainability goals
  • Drive the growth of the business (revenue and balance sheet) derived from customers and businesses compliant with recognized sustainability standards and that are contributing positively towards building a green economy in collaboration with business units
  • Drive the development of products or solutions that support client efforts in climate mitigation and adaptation, environmental protection and driving positive social impact including gender equity
  • Provide analytical support to commercial business units on green projects including screening, identification and appraisal of all prospective and acquired business portfolios.
  • Identification and management of ESG risks in the business and customer portfolio
  • Conduct an audit of existing client relationships with a view to enabling an alignment to the sustainability framework where the lack of it exists.
  • Lead preparation and timely submission of sustainability reports as required by Commercial Division heads, Chief Commercial Officer, Management Board, Board of Directors and other relevant committees
  • Conduct evaluations value of existing and potential sustainability partnerships to maximize value for customers and the bank.
  • Ensure effective processes are in place to deliver the Commercial Banking CVP and that relevant service level agreements are adhered to.
  • Promote a sustainability mindset in the Commercial Division business processes and ways-of-working
  • Participate in bank sustainability-related project implementation representing the Commercial Division’s business interests and sustainability objectives
  • Act as primary contact with co-operating sustainability partners and providers of sustainability-linked fund lines
  • Responsible for overall management of all costs and related expenditure in delivery of the sustainability deliverables of the Commercial Division.
  • Identify and mobilize resources required for execution of the sustainability strategy in collaboration with internal functions and guidance of the Chief Commercial Officer
  • Any other responsibilities or tasks as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

Education:

Grade 12 Credit or above mandatory in Mathematics and English and any other three subjects.

University Degree in Business or relevant discipline

Qualification in climate and environmental studies will be an added advantage

Commercial credit analysis certification will be an added advantage

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

8 years relevant experience preferably in a banking environment

3 years in a leadership role

Experience in sustainable/development finance, corporate sustainability, or climate/environmental policy as an added advantage:

Passion for the Green and SDG/Social/Sustainability agenda and the low carbon & climate resilient future as an added advantage
